Think of England

.
It's all about branding, and the indelible image.

Lynndie England. Just a slip of a girl, and probably too simple to understand the charges against her, we're led to understand that she just up and decided to torture and degrade prisoners at Abu Ghraib. Now she's had her plea agreement revoked on testimony from her former lover. Having acknowledged her role in the atrocities of Ab Ghraib, she would appear to be turning to a "Diminished Capacity" defense...or corporate endorsement, depending on how the chips fall...(I had a shot of her with a Coke, too, but I lost it while I was crying)

Here's the thing. Why are we seeing mostly women take the fall for Abu Ghraib? War crimes are serious business: three convicted soldiers and a writ of bad behavior for a demoted part-time general wouldn't do the trick under any circumstances, but when 3 of the 4 of them are women? You've got to wonder. Where's Rumsfeld? Why aren't we seeing Sanchez or Gonzales on the stand? And no one of intelligence (clearly).

Not even Lynndie England can defend Lynndie England; such is the magic of digital media. But given the dogpile of hearty male warfighters up the chain of command, you'd think someone would be man enough to step up and take responsibility.
